This website is designed to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the European standard EN 301 549. At present, the website is partially compliant: its infrastructure has been developed in accordance with accessibility principles, but some content may not yet meet all applicable requirements, as outlined below.
How we approached accessibility
Accessibility is considered from the design stage onwards. In particular, the website uses:
- semantic HTML5 markup and ARIA landmarks for a clear, navigable structure;
- a consistent heading hierarchy and alternative text for meaningful images;
- colour contrast ratios that meet the minimum requirement of 4.5:1 for text;
- full keyboard navigation and visible focus indicators;
- support for the system preference for reduced motion (prefers-reduced-motion).
We do not use automatic accessibility overlays or widgets, which often worsen the experience for users of assistive technologies.
Non-accessible content
Some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- archived documents or images published in the past may have incomplete alternative text;
- third-party embedded content (such as videos or maps) may not provide full keyboard accessibility.
Upon request, we can provide content in an accessible alternative format.
Ongoing review and updates
We carry out both manual and automated accessibility checks, prioritising improvements with the greatest impact on users. Significant issues are addressed as a matter of urgency, while other issues are generally resolved within six months of identification. This statement is reviewed following every significant release.
